Paul Dionne has been representing Aboriginal bands and tribal councils for over 25 years. His practice includes treaty negotiations, specific claims, administrative agreements and business contracts, as well as Aboriginal rights litigation. He has appeared before all levels of court, including the Supreme Court of Canada, and has represented Aboriginal groups before parliamentary committees. In 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009, he was named as one of the ”Best Lawyers” practicing Aboriginal law in Canada by the Best Lawyers in Canada.

Paul Dionne served as Regional Director for the Direction générale du Nouveau-Québec in Kuujjuaq during the transition period that followed the conclusion and implementation of the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement (1974-1978). He then contributed to the creation and organization of the Northern Villages in Nunavik as legal counsel to the Québec Ministry of Municipal Affairs. In 1982, he returned to private practice in Montreal.

Paul Dionne served as Chair of the Québec Bar’s Compensation Fund Committee for over ten years. He was a founding member of the Québec Bar’s Committee on the Law and Aboriginal Peoples. He taught Aboriginal law at the University of Québec in Montréal law program and has written numerous articles on Aboriginal law and given many papers on the subject.
